Special Olympics Oregon Interns

Special Olympics Oregon (SOOR) is seeking 3-4 interns to assist the Marketing and Team Recruitment Manager in marketing and promotions for one of SOOR’s most high-profile fundraising events, the Trail Blazers Street Jam 3-on-3 basketball tournament. As an intern, you will be working closely with the Marketing and Team Recruitment Manager, as well as the Director of Special Events. 

You will be spending time both in the office (making phone calls, shipping out promotional packets, entering team information into the database) and out in the community (at promotional events, gyms, and recreational centers encouraging participation and handing out collateral).

You will also have the opportunity to work at the event on July 31 - August 2.This is a great experience for anyone looking to gain experience in the fields of sports marketing, promotions and event management.  Interns can earn school credits for hours.Applicants must be energetic, dependable, outgoing and comfortable talking to interested people about the event. Must have a car and be good at managing time and tasks on your own, should be proficient with Microsoft Office.This is a part-time position (May-August) that will require about 20 hours per week with some work on weekends.Please let me know if/when this opportunity is posted, and thanks for your support!

Summer Camp Counselors Needed!!!

Concordia students wanted for a life-changing opportunity and to create memories that are guaranteed to last a lifetime! 

Become a summer Camp Counselor for Children and Adults with Disabilities!  Mt. Hood Kiwanis Camp provides one of the most comprehensive outdoor recreation programs available to individuals with significant disabilities. The summer consists of one-week sessions operating from mid-June to mid August, filled with adventure course activities, horseback riding, canoeing, fishing, swimming, arts & crafts, hiking, music, dancing, campfires, skits, and much more. Counselors commit to a two-week session, receive valuable training from our Portland State University partners, and live at the camp site with their students during the volunteer experience.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Whereby the institution will recruit Concordia students that are eligible for FWS and will work with these guidelines:

  1. The student worker will tutor or mentor students selected by the organization who are behind their peers or in a position of disadvantage.
  2. The student worker can work within the confines of any preexisting tutoring/mentoring program guidelines of the organization.
  3. The student worker will be trained to understand the program and safety procedures of the organization.
  4. The student worker will hold a position of responsibility to the students and staff at the school from which they serve.  The worker will be held accountable for punctuality, professionalism, and hours worked as set by the institution and the organization.

HOURS

During periods of regular enrollment, students employed under this agreement may work no more than twenty (20) hours per week. When classes are not in session (during vacation breaks or summer), students may work forty (40) hours or more per week.

Students can only be paid for hours actually worked and may not be paid for lunch, vacation, holiday, sick days, or other hours not actually worked.  When a students accumulated gross earnings reach his/her FWS award, (s)he must stop working under this agreement.

Student will be made available to the organization by the institution as the institution shall determine for performance of specific work assignments.  Students may be removed from work on a particular assignment of the organization by the institution, either on its own initiative or at the request of the organization.

Transportation for students to and from their work assignments will not be provided by either the institution or the organization. In the event of injury incurred by a student employee while acting within the scope of his/hers duties, the institution shall resume responsibility as employer.

Compensation for work performed on a project under this agreement will be disbursed –and all payments due as an employer’s contribution under state and federal social security laws, or under any other applicable laws, will be made by the institution.

The student will be paid by the institution based on the established hourly rate (current minimum wage) and number of hours worked.  A written record of hours worked is to be submitted by the organization to the institution on a regular basis in accordance with a schedule issued annually by the institution.  At the institution’s request, the organization agrees to confirm those hours by an authorized signature of an Organization official on verification statement before the institution will release payments to the student employed under this agreement.
