Central City Concern is a non-profit social service and housing agency whose mission is to provide pathways to self-sufficiency through active intervention in homelessness.  CCC provides many services, such as chemical dependency treatment, employment services, housing, medical services, and other related services, to a diverse population.  As an agency deeply rooted in recovery we have a keen interest in promoting and maintaining a Drug & Alcohol-Free Workplace.  A drug and alcohol-free workplace is essential in supporting individuals in recovery, and in providing a safe, healthy, and productive environment for employees.  As part of our policy and commitment to a drug and alcohol-free workplace we conduct post-offer, pre-employment drug screens.  

TITLE:                      Mental Health and Addictions Counselor 100%

DEPARTMENT:      12th Ave Recovery Center

REPORTS TO:         Assistant Director of Mental Health

SALARY:                  $30,000-$40,000 depending on experience

Hours:                        Monday through Friday 8:30am to 5:00pm 

Summary:  The Mental Health and Addictions Counselor is a critical member of a multi-disciplinary team addressing treatment needs of the severely mentally ill people many with co-occurring disorders. The position is responsible for conducting both mental health and addictions assessments, facilitating groups, coordinating integrated treatment and providing crisis management as needed. Master level required with CADC.  

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Must demonstrate the ability to conduct an assessment, including identifying precipitating events, gathering histories of mental and physical health, alcohol and other drug use, past mental  healthservices and criminal justice contacts, assess family, cultural and social and work relationship
  • Must demonstrate a the ability to conduct a mental status examination, complete a five axis DSM diagnosis, write and supervise the implementation of an ISSP (service plan)
  • Provide individual and group therapy within the scope of their training.
  • Refer clients to appropriate treatment programs for follow-up care.
  • Maintain clinical records on client’s progress.

Description of Other Duties:

  • Work as team members withstaff in other parts of 12th Ave
  • Participate in quality assurance and quality improvement activities as directed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted during the course of work.

Minimum qualifications including education, experience, training, license and sobriety: 

  • Must have a Masters in Behavioral Health field and minimum of CADC I certification.
  • If recovery staff, must be able to document continuous abstinence under independent living conditions or recovery housing for immediate past two years.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Must generally have the ability to bend, stoop, kneel, squat, twist, reach, pull and lift heavy objects and climb stairs, with reasonable or no accommodation.
  • Must adhere to all Agency policies, including but not limited to, non-discrimination, safety, drug and alcohol-free workplace and harassment-free workplace.
  • Ability to effectively interact with co-workers and clients with diverse ethnic backgrounds, religious views, political affiliations, cultural backgrounds, life-styles, and sexual orientations and treat each individual with respect and dignity.
