Regular Server Maintenance

Today, September 10th, starting at 4:30 PM and continuing through midnight we will be conducting regular server maintenance. There will be rolling service interruptions during this process. We do not expect any one service to be unavailable for more than 15-20 minutes total during this time window. If you have difficulty using a particular network service please wait 15-20 minutes and then retry.

There will also be extended service outage for most network services starting at 12:00 AM and continuing until 2:00 AM.

Regular Maintenance, Banner, & WebCT

Today, August 13, starting at 4:30 PM and continuing through midnight we will be conducting regular server maintenance. There will be rolling service interruptions during this process. We do not expect any one service to be unavailable for more than 15-20 minutes total during this time window. If you have difficulty using a particular network service please wait 15-20 minutes and then retry.

We are installing some new hardware in the Banner server tonight. Starting at 6:00 PM Banner will be unavailable for 20 minutes to an hour.

There will also be extended service outage for WebCT this evening starting at 8:00 PM.  We expect WebCT to be back online no later than 10:00 PM.

Regular Maintenance, Hagen, & J:

Today, June 12th, starting at 4:30 PM and continuing through midnight we will be conducting regular server maintenance. There will be rolling service interruptions during this process. We do not expect any one service, to be unavailable for more than 15-20 minutes total during this time window. If you have difficulty using a particular network service please wait 15-20 minutes and then retry.

The J: rotation will be completed this evening and the Y: drive will no longer be available.  All files on the Y: will be DELETED and there will be no file recovery for this data.

Lastly we will be upgrading part of the network infrastructure on the first floor of Hagen which will interrupt all network communications for the first floor of the library, CELT classroom, and ASCU lounge.

Interruption in service to M101-105 & Crossroads 5/16/2008

There will be an interruption to network and telephone services today to the Modular 101-105 rooms and the Crossroads house as we cut over fiber optic and telecommunications services to new trunk facilities outside of the footprint of the new building. If you are in these buildings, expect the interruption to last approximately 1 hour. If you are trying to reach someone in these buildings, be aware they may be out of service today for a period of time.

Regular Server Maintenance, WebCT, J:

Today, May 14th, starting at 4:30 PM and continuing through midnight we will be conducting regular server maintenance. There will be rolling service interruptions during this process. We do not expect any one service, except WebCT, to be unavailable for more than 15-20 minutes total during this time window. If you have difficulty using a particular network service please wait 15-20 minutes and then retry.

We will also be performing maintenance on the WebCT server and it will be unavailable starting at 6:30 PM and continuing through midnight.

Lastly we will be rotating the J: drive for Summer 2008 tonight starting at 5:30 PM. As per the policy of use, the J: drive is ‘cleaned out’ every semester. The old content will be available as “read-only” on the Y: drive for 30 days. If you have materials that were on the J: drive that you will need on J: drive again for fall, please copy them from the Y: drive back to the J: drive ASAP. There will be no recovery services available for those files once the Y: drive is removed in 30 days.

Remember there are 3 main network storage areas available to you:

H: Drive - Your personal network user space

I: Drive - Accessible only by Faculty, Staff and Adjuncts. Campus folder is available for all to share between departments, departmental folders are limited to access by department only.

J: Drive - Accessible to all users including students. Use this drive when you need to share data with students or a group that includes students.

We have not yet implemented a rotation policy for H: or I: drives. Please help us avoid the need for such a policy by remembering to ‘clean up’ data from H: and I: when you no longer need it or have archived it to another medium (such as a CD-ROM or DVD). Thank you for your cooperation.

Internet Service Interruption 5/8/2008 - 3PM

On Thursday 5/8/2008 between 3pm and 5pm there will be a short interruption in Internet service to campus during a required connection reconfiguration. We expect this interruption to be brief and only affect service for a few minutes. Please plan for this brief interruption to occur during this time period.

Internet Service Interruption 5/4/2008

On Sunday Morning between 8am and 12pm (noon) there will be an interruption in Internet services to and from campus for a period of approximately 1 hour. A critical hardware replacement will require Internet access to be taken offline during this maintenance operation. All access to servers from the outside will be interrupted as well as all access to the Internet from on campus. Please make preparations for this interruption accordingly.

Network Services Interruption

Tomorrow morning, Wednesday 4/30/2008, between 7am and 9am we will be conducting critical service on our power backup systems for the data center. We are not expecting any interruptions in service, however this maintenance carries with it the potential risk of a full data center shutdown if something goes wrong. It is unlikely we will be able to provide any warning if such a problem occurs. Please be sure to save and close any files tonight so that they are properly backed up and if you are working on network data tomorrow between 7am and 9am please be sure to save often and be prepared for an interruption in service.  Thank you for your patience.

Network Advisory #2008042301 - Phone System Partial Failure

The issues with some phones not ringing or being unable to hear people on those phone has been resolved. We apologize for the inconvenience. Some phone with message waiting indicator lights may not illuminate the message waiting light again until a new voice message arrives.

Cause: Multiple failures in Shelf 020 01

Affected: 150 analog phone sets - primarily residence halls, office phones & fax lines.

Duration: Approx. 46 hours
